In light of escalating security concerns, the US Mission in Pakistan has issued a security alert advising its citizens to avoid travel to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, until December 16. The warning highlights specific threats to the Serena Hotel in Peshawar and comes as part of broader precautions for US nationals in the region.
The advisory, titled “Threat to Serena Hotel, Peshawar,” was issued on Wednesday. It cautions both US citizens and mission personnel to avoid the hotel and the surrounding area during this period.
“US citizens are encouraged to avoid the hotel and the area around it and to reconsider travel plans to Peshawar,” the alert stated. The message reinforced an earlier travel advisory issued in September, which categorized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as ‘Level 4 – Do Not Travel’ due to heightened terrorism risks.
The September 10 advisory outlined the serious security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, citing frequent attacks by terrorist and insurgent groups targeting civilians, non-governmental organizations, government offices, and security forces.
The advisory noted, active terrorist and insurgent groups operate in the region, often targeting both government officials and civilians. There is a high risk of assassination and kidnapping attempts, including those targeting polio eradication teams and law enforcement personnel.

This grim assessment remains relevant as recent months have seen an increase in terror activities and attacks on security forces in the province.

In response to the heightened threat level, the US Mission has urged its citizens to: Avoid traveling to Peshawar and its surrounding areas, Refrain from visiting the Serena Hotel and its vicinity until the advisory period ends on December 16 and Revisit the “Do Not Travel” advisory issued in September for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adhere to its guidelines.
