Paul Pogba Set to Return in March After Doping Ban Reduction—Potential Move to Marseille on the Horizon?
After a turbulent period in his career, Paul Pogba will be eligible to return to the field in March following a significant reduction in his doping ban. Originally facing a four-year suspension, the midfielder’s ban was cut to 18 months, a decision that has given him new hope and a fresh opportunity to resume his career at the top level.
While Pogba is still under contract with Juventus, there are growing rumors that the French international could be on the move before his ban is lifted.
Reports suggest that Ligue 1 side Marseille is keen to sign the 30-year-old, with discussions possibly starting as early as the January transfer window. Marseille could offer Pogba a new chapter in his career as they look to strengthen their squad.
One of the most vocal supporters of Pogba’s potential move to Marseille is former France and Juventus defender Patrice Evra. A long-time friend of Pogba, Evra has thrown his weight behind the idea of Pogba joining the Ligue 1 club, even offering to personally intervene to help facilitate a deal.
In an interview, Evra said, “He wants to play football, wherever it is. Why not OM? I’m going to call [sporting director] Medhi Benatia and tell him the door is open.”
Pogba, while appreciative of Evra’s support, has taken a more cautious approach to the transfer speculation. Speaking to L’Equipe, he responded to Evra’s comments with a smile, acknowledging the former Manchester United star’s playful nature:

“I laugh because he’s Uncle Pat, and he said it jokingly. But I’m still under contract, so it’s not really credible at the moment.” Despite this, Pogba left the door open to a possible move, adding, “You never know what tomorrow will bring, so never say never.”
For now, Pogba’s focus remains on getting back to full fitness and returning to the pitch in March. Reflecting on the ban reduction, Pogba expressed his relief and optimism: “I was really happy. I hadn’t done anything wrong, so why would they give me four years? Being able to come back to what I love the most—it’s like I’ve been given another chance. It feels like something that was taken from me has been given back. It’s a new lease on life. March is around the corner, and I can’t wait.”
Although Pogba won’t be eligible to play until March, he is allowed to resume training with Juventus. His return could provide a much-needed boost to the Bianconeri, who have had a mixed start to their Serie A campaign. Despite being unbeaten in their first seven games, Juventus have drawn four times and sit three points behind league leaders Napoli.
