Manager Erik ten Hag confirmed the departures of McCarthy and Mitchell van der Gaag, while welcoming Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake to his coaching team for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
McCarthy, responding to well-wishes from SuperSport Anchor Thomas Mlambo on X, expressed gratitude and hinted at his plans for the future. “Thanks a lot, Thomas, much appreciated my man. Next chapter is a decent holiday; football was stressful last season,” he remarked.
Prior to his stint at Manchester United, McCarthy made significant coaching strides in South Africa, notably with Cape Town City and AmaZulu in the Premier Soccer League.
