Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has expressed his willingness to step down if it would bring lasting peace to his war-torn country.
Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv on Sunday, Zelenskiy even suggested that he would exchange his resignation for Ukraine’s long-sought entry into NATO, emphasizing his commitment to the nation’s security and future.
Zelenskiy’s remarks highlight his determination to explore every possible avenue to end the ongoing conflict with Russia.
“If my resignation could bring peace to Ukraine, I would be willing to step aside,” he stated. His comment underscores the weight of leadership during wartime and the difficult decisions required to safeguard the country’s future.

The Ukrainian leader also addressed the role of the United States in the conflict, calling for a deeper and more committed partnership. Zelenskiy noted that while mediation between Kyiv and Moscow is essential, it is not sufficient on its own.
“I really want it to be more than just mediation… that’s not enough,” he stressed, signaling his hopes for stronger U.S. involvement in Ukraine’s defense and diplomatic efforts. He also mentioned former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying he would welcome Trump as a partner rather than merely a go-between in negotiations.
As Ukraine continues to face challenges on the battlefield and in the diplomatic arena, Zelenskiy’s statements reflect his willingness to make personal sacrifices for the good of the country.
