In a bid to strengthen their squad amid multiple injury setbacks, Bayer Leverkusen have signed Argentina international Emiliano Buendía on a six-month loan from Aston Villa, the German club confirmed on Wednesday.

The move comes as Leverkusen look to maintain their momentum at the top of the Bundesliga, with key players Amine Adli and Martin Terrier sidelined due to injuries.

Buendía’s departure from Villa Park is particularly intriguing, as it comes just days after he signed a 12-month contract extension with the Premier League side. The 28-year-old playmaker has been a key squad member for Villa, making 97 appearances and scoring 10 goals since his arrival from Norwich City in 2021.

Though injuries have limited his impact at Villa, Buendía remains a technically gifted attacking midfielder with a creative spark that could add depth and versatility to Leverkusen’s attack. His ability to operate in multiple offensive roles makes him a valuable addition, especially as the club competes on multiple fronts this season.

With Leverkusen chasing Bundesliga glory and aiming for a deep run in European competitions, bolstering the squad was a top priority for manager Xabi Alonso. Buendía’s arrival provides an additional attacking option, offering creativity and experience at a crucial stage of the campaign.
