Nigerian Government Announces Plan to Establish Aircraft Manufacturing Firm

In an ambitious move to bolster Nigeria’s aviation industry, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to establish an aircraft manufacturing facility in the country.

This transformative project is a collaborative effort between XeJet and indigenous banks, with the goal of positioning Nigeria as a leading regional hub for aviation services.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during the inauguration of XeJet’s new Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility and flight support center in Abuja.

Keyamo highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of empowering local operators and elevating the nation’s aviation industry to global standards.

“Since taking office, our focus has been on attracting MRO facilities to enhance our aviation ecosystem, just as seen in other parts of the world,” Keyamo remarked.

“We have searched far and wide for investors, but now we realize that what we sought globally is right here at home. This partnership between a local operator and indigenous banks is truly a dream come true.”

The project includes additional facilities such as a state-of-the-art training center, which Keyamo described as a significant milestone. He emphasized that this initiative is designed not only to meet Nigeria’s aviation needs but also to attract users from across the West African sub-region.

“The vision is to make this facility a regional center of excellence,” Keyamo stated, underscoring the long-term impact of this development on the aviation sector.
