Omar Marmoush Reveals Mohamed Salah’s Advice That Helped Propel His Move to Manchester City

Omar Marmoush is on the brink of completing a monumental €80 million transfer (€75m upfront) from Eintracht Frankfurt to Premier League champions Manchester City. This move comes off the back of an extraordinary season in the Bundesliga, where the 25-year-old Egypt international has lit up the league with 20 goals and 14 assists in just 26 appearances.

Marmoush’s remarkable form has turned heads across Europe, and he was notably absent from Eintracht Frankfurt’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last Friday, as the club confirmed ongoing transfer negotiations.

Despite the inevitable comparisons with Mohamed Salah, Marmoush has made it clear that while he draws inspiration from the Liverpool superstar, he is determined to carve his own path in football.

Reflecting on his journey, Marmoush shared how a pivotal conversation with Salah early in his international career transformed his mindset.

“When I first joined the national team, Salah spoke to me about the importance of mental strength. He told me it was something I needed to work on if I wanted to reach the top,” Marmoush revealed during an appearance on the Sahibet Al-Saada TV show.

“At the time, I didn’t fully understand what he meant. Like many young players, I thought, ‘What difference can mental strength really make?’ But after listening to him, trying different approaches, and going through experiences myself, I realized how crucial it is. It has made a massive difference in my development.”

Marmoush credited Salah not only for his advice but for being a constant source of support and guidance. “Mo and I have a very good relationship—we’re friends. We talk often, and I try to learn from his experiences. He’s been at the top of the game for years, and having someone like him on the national team is a blessing,” Marmoush said.

While the bond between the two Egyptian stars is evident, Marmoush is adamant about making his own mark on the game. “Of course, Salah is one of the greatest players to come out of Egypt and one of the best in Europe. But I don’t want to be the ‘next Salah.’ I want to be Omar Marmoush. I want to write my own story,” he said.

Despite his ambitions to stand out, Marmoush acknowledged the value of learning from Salah’s journey. “Listening to him and hearing his stories about how he dealt with challenges and improved himself has been incredibly helpful. But I’m focused on my own goals and making my own impact.”
