The United States has unveiled a powerful new sanctions package targeting over 400 entities tied to Russia’s energy sector. This decisive move, announced on Friday, aims to undermine the financial and logistical networks fueling Russia’s ongoing war efforts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commended the sanctions as a critical step toward disrupting the mechanisms that enable Russia’s aggression.

In a statement shared on social media, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to U.S. President Joe Biden, his administration, and the American people for their unwavering support. He highlighted the bipartisan nature of these measures, emphasizing their importance in holding Russia accountable.

“These sanctions strike at the heart of Russia’s war machine by dismantling its supply chain,” Zelenskyy remarked. “From key producers and insurance companies to logistics facilities and a fleet of 184 shadow tankers, this package delivers a substantial blow to Russia’s ability to sustain its aggression.”

The sanctions target a wide range of entities integral to Russia’s energy industry, including major oil producers, service providers, and insurers.

Notably, Surgutneftegaz, a prominent Russian oil company, is among the entities hit. Zelenskyy referred to the company as a critical financial lifeline for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration.

By curbing revenues from oil and energy exports, the measures are designed to weaken Russia’s financial capacity to continue its war efforts. Zelenskyy expressed optimism that these steps would accelerate the resolution of the conflict.

“Energy resources should serve the world’s stability, not as tools of war,” Zelenskyy asserted. “Russia’s misuse of energy as a weapon underscores the urgency of these actions. We must ensure that countries adhering to international law can provide stable and reliable energy supplies globally.”

The sanctions highlight the U.S.’s leadership in rallying international support for Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized the significance of this partnership, calling it a testament to shared values and commitments.

“We deeply appreciate America’s leadership and the bipartisan effort behind these sanctions,” Zelenskyy stated. “These actions will reduce Russia’s petrodollar income and diminish its ability to fund aggression.”

“Together, we are making progress,” Zelenskyy concluded. “These actions remind us that unity and determination can pave the way to a brighter future.”

As the conflict continues, the new sanctions signal a robust international effort to hold Russia accountable. For Ukraine, these measures represent hope—not just for disrupting the machinery of war, but also for restoring peace and stability to the region.
