United Airlines is set to elevate its passenger experience by embracing Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service. The airline announced on Sunday that testing for this cutting-edge connectivity solution is expected to begin in February, with the first commercial flight equipped with Starlink technology planned for this spring.
The inaugural deployment will feature Embraer E-175 aircraft, with a broader rollout planned across United’s entire two-cabin regional fleet by the end of 2025. By the close of this year, passengers can expect to see Starlink-enabled planes operating on major routes.
Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, promises high-speed, reliable internet through its extensive satellite network.
United has confirmed plans to eventually make Starlink available on all its flights. However, free access to this advanced service will only be offered to MileagePlus members, marking a shift from earlier intentions to provide complimentary Wi-Fi to all passengers.

This collaboration with Starlink is part of a long-term agreement inked last year, aiming to integrate satellite-powered internet across United’s fleet of over 1,000 aircraft.

The company has already secured deals with other airlines, including Hawaiian Airlines and regional carrier JSX, further positioning itself as a key player in the in-flight connectivity market.
