The Israeli military has escalated its months-long offensive in northern Gaza, directing residents still remaining in the town of Beit Hanoun to evacuate on Sunday.
This development comes amidst ongoing conflict, with Israel citing continued rocket fire from Palestinian militants in the area. The directive has triggered another wave of displacement in an already deeply strained humanitarian landscape, though the exact number of affected individuals remains unclear.
Residents in Beit Hanoun reported receiving warnings to leave the area, adding to the widespread displacement in northern Gaza. Israeli authorities maintain that these instructions are part of an effort to protect civilians from harm during their military campaign.
However, Palestinian officials and United Nations representatives have pushed back, arguing that the lack of safe zones within Gaza only worsens the dire humanitarian conditions faced by the population.
The ongoing offensive has drastically altered the landscape of northern Gaza. Towns such as Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Beit Lahiya have been largely depopulated and devastated, leading to speculation about Israel’s intentions for the area.

Analysts and local observers suggest that Israel may be aiming to establish a closed buffer zone in these regions once the conflict subsides.
Despite the heavy military presence and operations in Beit Hanoun, Palestinian militants have continued to launch rockets into Israel, according to the Israeli military. Strikes from both sides have resulted in significant casualties and destruction.
On Sunday, the Palestinian Civil Emergency Service reported losing contact with individuals still trapped in Beit Hanoun. Rescue teams were unable to reach these areas due to the ongoing military raids.
Palestinian health officials stated that Israeli airstrikes across Gaza killed at least 23 people on Sunday. Among these casualties, seven individuals lost their lives and others were injured in a strike at Al-WAFA Hospital in Gaza City, according to the Palestinian Civil Emergency Service.
Later in the day, another airstrike reportedly killed seven additional people in a residential house in Beit Hanoun.
As the conflict continues, humanitarian organizations have raised alarms about the worsening conditions in Gaza. The United Nations and local officials emphasize that evacuations, while intended to save lives, exacerbate the plight of displaced families who have limited access to food, shelter, and medical care.
With communication increasingly difficult and infrastructure severely damaged, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza shows no signs of abating. International calls for ceasefires and diplomatic resolutions persist, but the path to peace remains fraught with challenges.
