Former U.S. President Bill Clinton was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday following a brief stay for treatment of the flu, according to a statement from his office. The 78-year-old Democrat, who has faced several health challenges over the years, was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital with a fever.
Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Angel Urena, shared the update on the social media platform X, expressing gratitude on behalf of the former president and his family.
“President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu,” Urena wrote. “He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received.”
This isn’t the first time Clinton’s health has made headlines. In October 2021, he was hospitalized for five nights due to a serious blood infection. Decades earlier, in 2004, he underwent a quadruple bypass surgery after being diagnosed with heart disease. That health scare prompted significant lifestyle changes, including adopting a vegetarian diet.

In November 2022, Clinton’s health again captured public attention when he tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, he made a full recovery, further demonstrating his resilience.
Despite controversies during his time in office, Clinton’s post-presidential years have been marked by a commitment to humanitarian and diplomatic work. He has led initiatives through the Clinton Foundation, focusing on global health, education, and economic empowerment.
