Ukraine Remains Resolute in Reclaiming Occupied Territories

Ukraine’s determination to reclaim all territories occupied by Russia over the past decade remains unwavering, according to Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. Addressing recent speculation about a potential shift in Ukraine’s priorities, Umerov firmly denied such claims, calling them baseless and a product of Russian propaganda.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Oslo alongside Norway’s Defence Minister, Umerov emphasized that Ukraine’s territorial integrity is not just a goal but a deeply ingrained value. “Territorial integrity is part of our values,” he stated, underscoring the nation’s steadfast commitment to its sovereignty and the rights of its citizens.

When questioned about reports suggesting that Ukraine might be shifting its focus in the ongoing conflict to prioritize security over reclaiming land, Umerov dismissed the narrative as false. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s clear and resolute objective: to protect its people, secure its nation, and liberate territories under temporary occupation since 2014.

“Our priority is still to protect people, protect the nation, to liberate people from almost 10 years of temporary occupation. Crimea and Donbas are part of Ukraine,” Umerov declared, reiterating that these regions remain integral to Ukraine’s national identity and aspirations.

The Defence Minister also expressed solidarity with those living in Russian-occupied territories, noting their desire to be freed from occupation. “People living in territories held by Russia are all waiting to be liberated,” he said, highlighting the human element of the conflict and the struggles of those enduring foreign control.

This steadfast stance reflects Ukraine’s enduring resolve despite the immense challenges of a prolonged war. The focus remains on upholding Ukraine’s sovereignty and reuniting its people under one nation. With international allies like Norway reaffirming their support, Ukraine continues its mission not only to reclaim its land but also to ensure freedom and security for its citizens.

Umerov’s statements send a clear message: Ukraine will not waver in its efforts to reclaim its occupied territories and restore its rightful borders. As the conflict persists, this commitment stands as a beacon of hope for a united, sovereign Ukraine.
