On Tuesday, September 4th, the X accounts (formerly Twitter) of Donald Trump’s family members, Lara and Tiffany Trump, were hacked and misused to promote a fraudulent Solana-based meme coin.
The bad actors behind this breach took over Tiffany Trump’s account to falsely advertise the meme coin, presenting it as the official token for a supposed new Trump family project called “World Liberty Financial.”
To make the scam appear legitimate, the hackers shared a contact address for the token and linked to an official Telegram channel, further adding credibility to their deceit.
In a coordinated effort, they also used Tiffany Trump’s account to endorse a similar tweet from Lara Trump’s account, reinforcing the false promotion. The tweet from Lara Trump’s account quickly gained traction, receiving over 30,000 views before it was eventually deleted by the Trump family.
In response to the breach, Eric Trump and the official World Liberty Financial X account issued urgent warnings, advising people not to click on any links or purchase any tokens shared from the compromised profiles. The official World Liberty Financial account tweeted:

“ALERT: Lara’s and Tiffany Trump’s X accounts have been hacked. Do NOT click on any links or purchase any tokens shared from their profiles. We’re actively working to fix this, but please stay vigilant and avoid scams!”
Eric Trump added that the compromised accounts were locked down minutes after the fake posts were made. However, several users noted that by then, the tweets had already garnered a significant number of likes and retweets, potentially leading many to believe the scam was legitimate.
The situation took another turn when popular celebrity Caitlyn Jenner, who had previously promoted a Solana meme coin earlier this year, unknowingly endorsed the fake tweet from Lara Trump’s account with a clapping emoji. Jenner later claimed to have taken down her post after realizing it was part of the fraudulent scheme.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing sophistication of social media scams and the need for heightened vigilance, especially when it comes to financial endorsements from seemingly reputable accounts.
