Williams has been Barcelona’s primary transfer target this summer, as they aim to strengthen their squad under the guidance of Hansi Flick.
However, the future of the Spanish star remains uncertain, with Athletic Club determined to retain the winger at San Mamés for at least another season. Both Barcelona and Athletic Club are awaiting the Pamplona-born player’s decision, adding to the suspense of the transfer saga.
According to the Catalan publication SPORT, Williams, who is currently on vacation after his triumph at the Euros, has yet to make a definitive decision regarding his future.
Nevertheless, he has indicated that he will announce his decision within the next seven to ten days. Williams is keen to clarify his position to both clubs before commencing preseason training under Athletic Club’s coach, Ernesto Valverde.

When questioned about Williams’ future earlier this week, Valverde responded:
“We already know that Nico is a fantastic player. We will see what happens because new information emerges in the press every day. What we cannot do is let ourselves be swayed by media speculation. We need to focus on the actual developments.”
With La Liga set to kick off later this month, Athletic Club is scheduled to face Getafe on August 15. The Basque club is hopeful that Williams will have made his decision by then, as his presence would be crucial for their campaign.
