Manchester United are exploring options to address their left-back issues following the departure of a key player.
The club has compiled a shortlist of three potential candidates to bolster their defense. This list includes a 33-year-old defender who recently became a free agent after leaving Barcelona at the end of his contract, according to a report by The Mirror.
Among the candidates, the former Chelsea star stands out as a seasoned option with considerable experience.
Additionally, United are eyeing Feyenoord’s David Hancko and Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell as alternative targets. Hancko has also attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, although talks for a transfer have reportedly stalled. AC Milan is another club said to be monitoring Hancko’s situation closely.

On the other hand, Mitchell could be an appealing choice for United due to his contract status; with just 12 months remaining on his deal with Palace, he might be available at a reduced price.
The urgency for United to secure a new left-back stems from ongoing fitness concerns surrounding Tyrell Malacia. Malacia has been unable to participate in the club’s pre-season tour in the United States due to his struggles with injury.
Although he has resumed individual training sessions, it remains unclear when he will be fully fit and ready for selection.
During their tour in the United States, Erik ten Hag’s squad is set to face Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool. These matches will serve as crucial preparation for the upcoming season. Upon their return to England, Manchester United will clash with Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10, marking an important early test for the team’s revamped defense.
