Manchester United has been linked with a potential move for Joao Neves, one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents. However, the rapid development of their own promising midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo, may influence their decision.

According to journalist Christopher Michel, Manchester United’s top priority is fostering Mainoo’s progress in the upcoming season, which might lead them to reconsider their pursuit of Neves.

The club reportedly believes that bringing Neves to Old Trafford could hinder Mainoo’s development, prompting them to potentially withdraw from the race for the 19-year-old Portuguese star.

Despite this, Manchester United had previously offered Benfica €60 million (£50m/$65m) for Neves. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) countered with a higher bid of €70 million, yet Benfica remains firm on their €100 million valuation for the young midfielder.

Meanwhile, Mainoo is currently focused on the European Under-21 Championship, where the England team is preparing to face Spain in the final on Sunday.

His outstanding performance has heightened expectations for his future at Manchester United, making the club more inclined to invest in his growth rather than introducing potential competition from Neves.
