Labour Party to Launch Mobile App for Membership Registration Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Labour Party (LP), one of Nigeria’s major opposition parties, is set to revolutionize its membership registration process by launching a mobile app. This initiative aims to expedite the registration of members across the country, making it easier and more efficient.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Amb Aju Elumelu, Deputy Director of Media and Communications of the Labour Party Mobilization & Integration Directorate.
The Labour Party Directorate on Mobilization and Integration, led by Director General Mr. Marcel Ngogbehei, proposed this transformative initiative to the LP National Working Committee (NWC) through the Party’s National Chairman, Bar. Julius Abure.
In the proposal, Ngogbehei emphasized the need to elevate the party’s operations to international standards, ensuring that the Labour Party functions as a world-class organization.
Upon receiving the proposal, National Chairman Barr Julius Abure expressed his full support and promised to expedite the implementation. Abure highlighted the Party’s commitment to building and expanding its structure nationwide in preparation for the 2027 Presidential elections with H.E. Peter Obi as the candidate.

He described the app as a “game changer” that will facilitate seamless registration for millions of potential members, enabling their participation in party congresses and conventions with minimal hassle, he stated:
“The mobile app will enable members to register from anywhere in the world and provide a platform for direct engagement between party members and leaders. It will help validate membership data in real-time and provide verifiable data for organizing ward, state, and national congresses and conventions. Additionally, it will support the management of polling unit agents.”
Abure further noted that traditional methods of membership registration are often cumbersome and outdated. These methods typically involve extensive travel to various wards, high costs, risks, and extensive paperwork.
The manual data entry required by traditional methods often leads to errors and delays in validating membership status and transmitting data to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The mobile app will eliminate the inefficiencies associated with the traditional methods. It will provide real-time membership figures, offering a clear indication of the party’s membership and voting strength,” Abure added.
To ensure the app’s successful implementation, the Directorate plans to hold a stakeholder requirement elicitation exercise. This will ensure that the app meets the needs of all stakeholders, including those in rural areas without internet access or smartphones.
For these members, the app will include a USSD facility, allowing them to interact with the Labour Party Mobile App through simpler technology. Additionally, outposts will be established in rural communities to assist members in the registration process.

The Directorate also advised the public to beware of scammers posing as party officials. The app is designed to eliminate cases of misrepresentation and misinformation, providing a secure and reliable platform for membership registration.
As the Labour Party prepares for the 2027 Presidential elections, this mobile app represents a significant step forward in modernizing its operations and engaging with its members more effectively. With this initiative, the Labour Party aims to set a new standard for political party operations in Nigeria, ensuring that its members are well-connected and informed as the party works towards its electoral goals.
