Apple Inc. unveiled its long-anticipated artificial intelligence features at the Worldwide Developers Conference, introducing a new platform called Apple Intelligence. This launch includes a notable partnership with OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, as part of Apple’s strategy to offer a personalized and accessible approach to AI technology.
The centerpiece of the announcement was Apple Intelligence, designed to summarize text, generate original images, and deliver relevant data precisely when needed. This new platform also brings a revamped Siri, aiming to reclaim its position as a leading digital assistant.
Apple’s initiative is a strategic effort to regain its footing in the rapidly growing AI market, where it has lagged behind competitors like Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Microsoft Corp. By leveraging a user-friendly interface and its loyal customer base, Apple hopes to bridge the gap.
“This is a moment we’ve been working toward for a long time,” said Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, during the event. He described Apple Intelligence as “AI for the rest of us,” evoking an old Mac slogan.

The collaboration with OpenAI allows users to access ChatGPT through Siri at no extra cost. While Apple Intelligence will start rolling out later this year, some functionalities—such as Siri’s precise control over app features—are expected to launch next year. Additionally, support for languages beyond English will be introduced later.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman attended the event and expressed his enthusiasm on social media, noting he was “very happy” about the partnership with Apple. Although ChatGPT integration will be free, paid OpenAI subscribers will receive additional features over time. Apple also hinted at future support for Google’s Gemini feature and other services.
A key theme of the presentation was the emphasis on user data security. Craig Federighi highlighted Private Cloud Compute, a system designed to protect user information during data transmission to data centers. Apple Intelligence will also feature AI-generated emojis, called Genmoji, and automated photo editing capabilities.
This move signifies Apple’s high-stakes bid to catch up in the AI race, capitalizing on its reputation for innovation and user privacy to offer cutting-edge yet accessible AI solutions.
