Earlier this week, social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, updated its policy to allow users to post adult and graphic content.

However, in response to growing concerns, Musk assured users on Wednesday that he would ensure a ‘porn-free’ experience for those who prefer not to see such material.

The policy change has formally permitted users to share adult content on the platform, but not without raising questions and concerns among its user base.

When a user asked Musk directly if he planned to allow pornographic content on X, and if it would be possible to introduce a feature enabling a porn-free mode, Musk emphasized, “This is top priority.”

This statement comes at a time when policymakers worldwide are increasingly focused on curbing the spread of explicit content on social media.

The discussion continued as another user highlighted the need for “transparent options for people” who do not want to encounter such ads in their comment threads. A separate user voiced a stronger opinion, suggesting, “Just ban it altogether.”

Despite these concerns, X maintains that its platform should support the creation, distribution, and consumption of consensually produced sexual material. This stance extends to content generated by artificial intelligence (AI), including sexual videos and images, which are also covered under the new rules.

As the platform navigates this complex issue, Musk’s commitment to prioritizing a porn-free mode indicates a willingness to balance the freedom to share adult content with the need to protect users who wish to avoid it.

This development highlights the ongoing challenges social media platforms face in managing diverse user preferences while adhering to evolving regulatory standards.
