Donald Trump’s campaign website, on Thursday began redirecting visitors to a fundraising page proclaiming him a “political prisoner” shortly after his conviction in the New York hush money trial.
This declaration quickly caught the attention of a vast number of Trump supporters, leading to an unexpected surge in traffic that overwhelmed WinRed, the official donation platform for the Republican Party.
“I was just convicted in a RIGGED political Witch Hunt trial: I DID NOTHING WRONG! They’ve raided my home, arrested me, took my mugshot, AND NOW THEY’VE JUST CONVICTED ME!” the message read.
The sudden influx of visitors caused the page to crash within minutes of its launch. For about an hour, users attempting to access the fundraising page were met with a message indicating that “something went wrong” and reassuring them that engineers were working to resolve the issue.
Despite the technical difficulties, the Trump campaign maintained its assertive stance. They posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “The American people see through Crooked Joe Biden’s rigged show trial. So many Americans were moved to donate to President Trump’s campaign that the WinRed pages went down.”
This incident highlights the fervent support Trump continues to command among his base, as well as the campaign’s efforts to frame his legal challenges as politically motivated attacks.
