American rapper Nicki Minaj revealed on social media that she was detained at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Saturday under allegations of possessing soft drugs. The 41-year-old artist was held just hours before her scheduled performance in Manchester, England.
Dutch military police confirmed the detention of a 41-year-old American woman for possessing soft drugs, emphasizing that transporting such substances out of the Netherlands is illegal.
While the police did not disclose the woman’s identity, a subsequent post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) stated that the woman had been fined and released at around 19:45 GMT. This release occurred 45 minutes after Minaj was supposed to begin her concert at Manchester’s Co-op Live.
Minaj had previously posted a video on X in which an employee at Schiphol Airport informed her that police intended to “search all her luggage.”
Another video on her social media showed a police officer accusing her of “carrying drugs,” to which Minaj responded with a denial.
She further detailed the incident in a subsequent post, mentioning, “Now they said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls.”

Despite this setback, Minaj managed to travel and perform her scheduled concert, albeit delayed. The rapper had earlier performed at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on Thursday and is slated to return for another show at the same venue on June 2.
Minaj’s tendency to start her shows late was noted during her Amsterdam performance, where she took the stage nearly three hours after the advertised start time.
This incident at Schiphol Airport added another layer of complexity to her tour schedule, yet she remains committed to fulfilling her performance obligations despite the challenges.
