Nigerian Afropop singer, Simisola Bolatito Kosoko better known by her stage name Simi, has shared an insight into navigating her path to stardom and why she still engineers her own music.
In her recent interview in Lagos with CNN’s Larry Madowo, she said she does not really have money to give anyone, which makes her to engineers her own music.
With limited resources, the mother of one took matters into her own hands, teaching herself to record, mix, and master her music by watching tutorials on YouTube.

“It came to me so naturally, I love doing it”. On the day after I had done my solo, everyone was like, ‘oh, that was so beautiful. I think that sparked something in me I would be in the studio 16 hours a day. I would just take breaks to eat and sleep. It can be very tedious because it takes a lot of time and you have to be very precise about certain things”.
The Duduke crooner is one of the few women in the industry mixing and producing her own music, reshaping the landscape of Afropop and soul.
Her international acclaim soared after opening for 15-time Grammy-winning vocalist Alicia Keys on her 2023 tour and making waves on the Billboard World Album Charts.

The Nigerian songwriter, and actress started her career as a gospel singer, releasing her debut studio album in 2008, titled Ogaju. She also played as one of the top judges in season 7 of the Nigerian idol TV show in 2022.
Despite subsequent album releases, Simi found herself without a record label when she sought to produce her “RESTLESS” EP in 2014
